I have been updated about the ongoing incident in Exmouth at Phear Park & Maer Road caused by South West Water.
They have 10 tankers in action overnight whilst work to assess the damage to the rising main continues. South West Water says it is necessary to ensure that sewage is not discharged into the wastewater system.
The monitoring system (EDM) is still activated at Phear Park Pumping Station and, as before, South West Water staff remain on site to carry out mitigation efforts. They expect this work to continue until Wednesday.
This ongoing situation is clearly unacceptable and demonstrates the dire need for investment in Exmouth, fully funded by South West Water.
I have requested further updates from the Environment Agency who have been on site and I will be meeting with the EA to push for a full investigation.
We pay the highest sewage bills in the country. We demand better from South West Water.
