I believe it is fundamentally wrong that criminal gangs profit from risking the lives of people who try to come into our country illegally. That’s why stopping the boats is so important.
This government’s plan is already working, with small boat arrivals to the UK now down by a third. Whilst the verdict is disappointing, nothing in the Supreme Court’s Rwanda judgement will put a stop to these efforts brought about by working closely with countries including Albania.
Following this morning's announcement, the Prime Minister has rightly reiterated that he will do whatever it takes to break up the exploitative business model used by these gangs, including by amending our deal with Rwanda and introducing emergency legislation to stop further court delays.
In recent years, we have proudly welcomed thousands from war-torn countries including Ukraine, Afghanistan, and Syria. Our commitment to those who need asylum from danger won’t change. But these dangerous channel crossings must be stopped to end criminal exploitation and give a fair deal to British taxpayers who shouldn’t have to pay for the consequences.
