I’m acutely aware of the challenges for local people trying to get an NHS dentist appointment in our part of Devon.
The government is listening and acting, with a new NHS Long Term Workforce Plan which includes a 40% rise in dental training places.
We need more dentists, but we also need to make sure they get a fair deal for NHS patients.
I appreciate there are immediate issues that need addressing. That’s why I’ve been working hard to explore ways to increase appointment availability.
I have taken action and raised my concerns in Parliament, as well as with NHS Devon, local dentistry providers, and government ministers.
My argument is clear. We need to reform the contract for NHS dentistry so it works better for everyone and encourages more dentists to sign up NHS patients.
