Welcome to my Sidmouth Banking Hub Campaign.
I am pleased to confirm a banking hub is planned for Sidmouth. Banking hubs allow everyone to access everyday banking services, such as withdrawing and depositing cash easily.
It's important residents can speak to someone from their bank in-person, which is why I launched a local survey to send a clear message to the major high street banks that they should look to staff the banking hub. I’ll work hard to make sure people can still access their banking services in the town.
I’ve been in touch with the people charged with getting Sidmouth’s new Banking Hub up and running. Below is the latest information at the time of writing on 31st October 2023.
I’m pleased to report that it is on track to open by March 2024.
Design work has taken place and I will reveal the location soon once the legal contracts are signed.
Sidmouth’s Banking Hub will have two different things inside it.
Firstly, a counter where customers from any bank can do basic banking services like depositing cash and cheques when the bank is open, Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.
Secondly, an advice room – staffed by one bank a day – where customers of the bank available on the daily rota can get advice for things like mortgages, loans, and pensions.
Lloyds have confirmed to me in writing that they will staff the bank as part of this advice room daily rota, stating: “Our Community Banker will be based at the Hub on a regular basis to provide support and guidance to customers that need it.” That is certainly a welcome commitment, given the number of Lloyds customers there are in Sidmouth. Barclays have also written back to me with the same commitment, stating: “We can confirm a Barclays’ colleague will be present at the shared banking hub a minimum of one day a week, to support customers banking needs in your constituency.”
The current Lloyds bank branch on the High Street – which is the last bank in town – will be shutting its doors next year. It’s being kept open until the new Banking Hub is set up.
